Virtual Run Option

Due to the COVID19 situation in WV, the WV State parks are restricting most group events (like this race) to 25 people max.  We are offering participants a very flexible 'virtual' format over the weekend of Nov 7-8.  Hopefully this will provide runners incentive to keep up their training and work toward a personal Big Goal!

Registration

Registration for the virtual run is still on www.Ultrasignup.com. Online registration closes November 6.   Registration fees are listed on the Ultrasignup site.

Virtual Format Details

·

  • If you have already registered, you should have received details about the 30 Sep deadline to request a refund.

  • The 50K/25K registration fee will be reduced to $40, which will cover the cost of the T-Shirt (plus shipping) plus a $20 donation that will be directed to United Way. 10K/5K race entry fee will remain the same.

  • After 30 Sep you’re committed! There will be no further refunds after that date for any reasons.

  • The Virtual Run:  you will need to pick your own route and complete your 50K/25K distance over the weekend of 7-8 Nov. You’re also free to run the course at Watters Smith State Park. The Park will be open that weekend and the course will be well marked, including the start/finish lines. The course passes by the parking lot so you can use your vehicle as an aid station.

  • There will be a self-reporting feature for your time on the Ultrasignup site (more details to follow a fews weeks out). Once you complete that it will trigger me to send out your finishers t-shirt. Remember – everything about this virtual race is ‘unofficial’. Your time may mean something personal to you, so it will be in the records for posterity’s sake. However, we will not assign places (e.g. 1st, 2nd, 3rd) and the results will clearly state this run was held in a virtual format.

  • Lastly, if you chose to go the virtual path, remember that you do so on your own and at your own risk. Just have a great time with your running partners, challenge yourself for a new goal/PR, and walk away with a small victory and some good memories.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 ALERTS & INFORMATION

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

7/11/20:  Due to the recent, significant rise of new COVID19 cases in WV, the race is being rescheduled to November 7, 2020.  We are making every effort to make this a SAFE event, and to that end continue to develop a detailed medical response plan in keeping with WV State, CDC, USATF, and local health department guidance.  We will be performing questionnaire-style screening upon arrival at the Park, and taking temperatures.  Other social distancing, mask, and  hygiene requirements will be published here and sent via email in the weeks leading up to the event. Please continue to check back.

6/18/20:  North Central WV has maintained a relatively low positive test rate over the past 4 months, and the State is now gradually progressing through its conservative re-opening plan. Currently we are permitted to have events up to 100 people (including staff), with social distance restrictions. We are not anticipating an increase in this number, so we are capping the total participants at 90 (all four races combined). This is our inaugural year with the 25K/50K distances so we are giving preference to these races.  To do so, we will close registration for the 25K/50K on August 15 and any remaining slots toward the 90 total will go to the 5K/10K races (both online and same-day registration).  If you are considering the 25K/50K, please do not wait until the last minute!  Should the race be cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions, registration fees will be refunded (minus any Ultrasignup admin fee).

6/18/20:  Our Event Team is highly committed to making this the safest event possible. We have four medical professionals on our Team experienced in screening and social distancing measures. All participants and spectators will be screened (including temperature checks) at the West park entrance before being allowing into the start/finish area at the East entrance.  In the weeks leading up to the race we will post here, and send via email, detailed safety guidance including the screening protocols.  Please pay close attention to the screening questions and be sure you can 'pass' before leaving home!
